As he was lying low
he saw
some Someone pass the grass.
A Tigress.
As she was tall and fair,
her flare
has gathered many,
all laughing merrily
around her.
The Serpent slithered along.
Among.
The Tigress shone to him.
Her glow
has lit the Serpent"s scales yellow.
He stood, amazed.
And gazed.
Such glow.
Since serpents love to dwell on things
he lived the moment thousand times.
And then she offered him a drink -
some party rose that night!
The Serpent was the last to go,
the first to rise -
this was a flaw.
For it is known from ancient time -
this union is not the prime.
For cold and fire do not match.
For bold and wary don"t attach.
But nontheless, from now on,
he crept on Tigress" side till dawn.
And she was just on holiday.
Oh, she was careless, she was gay!
She was so restless, full with sun.
The Serpent thought, she was the One.
He liked to cuddle in her fur
and make the green and orange blur.
He liked to also feel her heat
ignite his cold and scaly meat.
Ignite his prudent, wary art,
and off and on - his chilly heart.
The Tigress didn"t mind a bit.
For she liked friends - and friends permit
that anyone who should feel drawn
to stay around until dawn.
But Serpent thought - This can not be!
Such Lady won"t belong to me!
Or he was simply feeling lonely,
for he was thirty and still only.
He doubled his attentions -
some fun they had, some conversations!
For serpents are but wise and sneaky
whereas tigers - brave and cheeky.
Indeed, he was confusing her.
For she had chosen long ago
a Mate. The Horse.
Who worked in jungle far away.
While she was now on holiday.
Somewhere, in the wild nights,
with many friends, so gay and bright
and many drinks and so much dances
the Serpent used all of his chances.
He wispered in the Tigress" ear -
words so clever, words so dear.
He stroke her fur with all his body,
especially when she was groggy.
His words has got a hold of her.
She lost her head and all of the
..the carelessness, the easiness.
Resistance"s gotten less.
And less.
They knew each other long ago.
For thousand lives - or she thought so.
The Serpent didn"t really know
and did not really care so.
Much more important was that she
forgets her mate and lets him be.
For Serpent wanted to possess
more than he could so express.
The Tigress didn"t really know
what"s to remain and what"s to go.
So far the Serpent had her
so far had gone the lure.
Must this be love? - the Tigress asked.
Some other sort, it"s kind of masked.
For I am not as I am really,
and serpents could not love so dearly,
as horses do.
And anyway, I like them more
as friends, that"s what I am here for.
As Friends! - she jumped and then run happy
to tell an answer he thought crappy.
His anger was so cold at first
that she diminished, then burst
in tears.
For she felt truly very strong
for this one serpent, green and long.
And some more time they had spent
and so much fun, so much consent
was once again upon them.
But Tigress knew, she must
tell this once more, at last.
For someone waited far away
for her return. And it was they
she loved so much. So much. So long.
The Horse was patient, caring, strong.
Some someone she has loved so much.
And someone whom she loved to touch.
The Serpent couldn"t even strike her
that"s how they weren"t alike.
She told the Serpent, she must go.
- Vacation over, you know, though.
And also back to my dominion,
you know, my marriage to continue.
The Serpent reared. And then stroke.
Not fondly, now he ment no joke.
The Tigress, stunned, just reacted
detained the bite, although distracted.
The Serpent tried to bite again.
He felt no more like gentleman.
She sank her claws in scaly flesh
but only holding him in mesh.
He writhed, tried to bite. Again.
An instinct made her claws obtain
the grip, and tighten it.
Again.
It started hurting. He would not moan.
- But please, you hurt your self alone!
For cats are fastest beasts on earth.
I wonder that you haven"t heard.
He could not bite her. He longed so.
He couldn"t merely let her go.
- Be gone then! - hissed the angry snake -
Be gone and give myself a break!
The words were like a poison worse
and now he knew with joy perverse.
For she was generous and proud
and loving, much to all her crowd.
The Tigress slackened the grip.
And then released him, bit her lip.
With swish of tail she was gone.
Her head held high - he was forlorn.
Then it was only now he saw,
his heart was bleeding. From a claw.
It took long time to get well.
And time he had, on things to dwell.
He swore himself that never more
a lucent tigress he"d adore.
And Tigress, too could not forgo
the memories not long ago.
But someone waited on the verge
of their jungle, and the urge
to hold each other was much stronger
that they could stand it any longer.
They went straight home...
and it was long
until they rose to sing a song.
Inside herself the Tigress swore:
- To hark to snake? Oh, never more!
So much for this. So much for that.
Here ends "The Serpent and the Cat".
